Education:

Dr. Michael Shahla graduated from Damascus University Medical School with honors. He has research experience from externships at Thomas Jefferson University, University of South Florida and multiple outpatient clinics. He completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency at Saint Joseph Hospital /University of Illinois-Chicago, graduating with honors, and scoring in the top 99th percentile nationally on the Resident In-Service Exam.

Work Experience:

Dr. Michael Shahla worked as an Internist in Bonita Springs and Naples for five years. He briefly moved to Charleston, West Virginia, where he worked at Charleston Area Medical Center, the state's largest hospital, which houses a Level I Trauma Center, Stroke Center, Open Heart/Vascular Center, and Kidney Transplant Center. As a Hospitalist managing complex and advanced conditions, he broadened his experience and enriched his skills in hospital medicine. In 2013, he decided to follow his own path and return to Naples to open North Naples Internal Medicine.  

A Letter from Dr. Michael S. Shahla

     Hello and thank you for visiting my website. Decisions based on your health are some of the most important decisions you will make in your lifetime.  My specialty is internal medicine. I deal with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adults diseases.  As a student, the intricacies of the human body and the marvels of how it worked had always intrigued me. However, as a practicing physician, I realized the parallel importance of having compassion, dignity, and respect with this vocation.

     At the heart of this profession, it is extremely rewarding. I truly enjoy what I do. It is not simply about treating people but guiding them to make informed and healthy decisions about their lives.  My goal is to bring the "small town doctor feel" to Southwest Florida.  A good doctor-patient relationship is vital for mutual understanding about one's health. With that understanding comes motivation, compliance, and subsequently, our goal for optimal health.

     Aside from medicine, my other significant and most beloved passion is my family.  I am married to the kindest and most beautiful person I know, and together we have been blessed with four wonderful children.  They are what makes it all meaningful to me.

     I hope that by sharing a little bit about myself and my philosophies,  you can feel more comfortable with your decision about who will be caring for you as your doctor.
